PhD public defence of Ms Qi Lu: “Enforcement of information disclosure requirements in Chinese and EU securities regulation from an investor protection perspective”

Friday 17 December 2021 (10:00) the PhD public defence of Ms Qi Lu will take place.

This PhD thesis takes stock of the disclosure regime in China and assesses whether it is effective in deterring misconduct and maintaining the efficient functioning of the market. By benchmarking it through a comparison with its European counterparts, the dissertation discerns the flaws and inconsistencies in the existing Chinese system. Since the effectiveness of the ‘law in the books’ relies greatly on the ‘law in action’, the analysis and evaluation primarily focus on the effectiveness and consistency of the enforcement regime of disclosure requirements in Chinese securities regulation. Meanwhile, considering the strong presence of retail investors in China’s securities market, question as to what extent the enforcement of more sophisticated disclosure requirements is adequate in making sure that the regulatory system succeeds in supplying the necessary degree of investor protection is dealt with.
