Michiel De Muynck
Biography
Michiel obtained his law degree at Ghent University in July 2008 (magna cum laude) and joined the Financial Law Institute in January 2009 as a researcher with a grant from the Research Foundation Flanders (FWO-Vlaanderen). Michiel was also visiting scholar at the Columbia University Law School in New York City. In July 2013 he successfully defended his PhD thesis on responsible lending. Currently Michiel works as a lawyer in the finance team of the law firm Stibbe. He assists financial institutions, companies and public authorities, advising them on a on a variety of structured finance transactions, including securitisations, trade receivables financing, real estate financing and debt capital markets (including covered bond related matters). Michiel is also a member of the Friday Group, a Belgian policy think-tank supported by the King Baudouin Foundation.
